High School Dual Enrollment Program Description
High School Student Qualifications
MJI may provisionally accept a high school student as early as grade 10 if college course enrollment is determined to be an appropriate option for the student. Students may thereby begin Modern Hebrew language studies in grade 10.
MJI will accept any student in grade 11 or 12 that takes at least one course at his or her high school while taking one or more college courses at MJI.
High school juniors and seniors may also qualify under the Michigan Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act for a substantial amount of the tuition to be paid by the local public school district.
Scholarships toward the cost of MJI tuition are available for students who will not receive dual enrollment funding from their public school district.
The Michigan Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act 160 (Dual Enrollment Act)
-
requires payment from a school district’s state aid foundation grant for enrollment of certain eligible high school students in postsecondary courses of education
-
does not restrict a private or public school from supporting students in postsecondary enrollment at any grade
-
mandates that all eligible students (grades 11 and 12) wishing to dual enroll MUST be allowed the postsecondary opportunity*
-
limits college course enrollment to courses that are either not offered by the student's high school or are unavailable due to a scheduling conflict beyond the student's control
-
places no restrictions on the number of courses, the time courses can be taken or minimum GPA;
* An eligible student has taken the Michigan merit or a readiness assessment exam and has achieved a qualifying score for the subject-related area (if offered) or is taking a course in a foriegn language not offered by the school district.
Students eligiblity under the
Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act is not required by MJI.
Transferring MJI Credits
Many colleges and major universities have applied MJI-earned credits toward undergraduate degrees.
All students who successfully complete a course at Michigan Jewish Institute earn MJI undergraduate credit and generate an MJI transcript. When students apply to other colleges or universities, they need to request that their MJI transcript be sent to that institution. The institution a student enrolls in always has the choice of determining which transfer credits it accepts.
