Using Library Resources

Accessing the Online Library Catalog

To find information on books and other materials available at the MJI main Campus Library, choose the Library Catalog link in any section of the library webpage.

  • Conduct a basic keyword search or a more advanced search using title, author, subject or other options.
  • Select the call number once the book information is displayed and look for the book on the shelf.
  • If you wish to borrow any material, please check the material out with the librarian, or send an email with your name, title, barcode or call number to the librarian at krhenry@mji.edu.

Finding Materials at the Main Campus Library

  • Libraries use classification systems to organize the books and other materials on the shelves. Materials at the MJI Main Campus Library are shelved according to the Library of Congress Classification System, which uses a system of letters and/or numbers (call numbers) to arrange the books by subject, so that books and other materials on the same topic are shelved together.

Click here for a graphical presentation of how to understand Library of Congress call numbers.

Accessing Online Databases and Resources

  •  The MJI Learning Resource Center offers access to a large collection of online academic and non- academic databases with thousands of  full-text articles, abstracts and citations in scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers and electronic books.  To access these databases either select the Annotated List of Databases link from the link on the Learning Resources Main Page, issued MJI  login required,  or via a link in your course shell if you are currently registered for an online class. Databases can be searched using either keyword, subject or advanced searches.

See quick video with tips for searching in the online databases.
